(FOX40.COM) — An inmate was stabbed multiple times by a group of other inmates at Sacramento County Main Jail on Wednesday, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.
At 2 p.m., officials said a man housed at the jail was stabbed five to six times by three other men who are also inmates. The assault took place during recreation time, the sheriff’s office said.
The three men were identified as:
• Christopher Berger, 26, in custody for Murder
• Ismael HerreraMondella, 23, in custody for several felony charges including attempted murder
• Francis Chavez, 38, in custody for attempted murder
An ambulance was used to transport the victim to a local area hospital and he is expected to survive, officials said.
The sheriff’s office said three inmates were detained and isolated without incident.
Once an investigation is complete, the sheriff’s office said the inmates are expected to be charged.
Berger was served a 113 years prison sentence on Dec. 15, 2023 after being charged for first-degree murder for a Aug. 24, 2020 drive-by shooting in North Sacramento, according to the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office.
