Man shot on MTA bus in Brooklyn: police

A 25-year-old man was shot and hospitalized when gunfire erupted on a Brooklyn MTA bus, police said Wednesday.

The victim was sitting in the rear of a B44 bus nearing the corner of Empire Blvd. and Rogers Ave. in Crown Heights at about 10:20 p.m. Tuesday when a young man and a woman got on the bus without paying their fare, police sources said.

When the man and woman sat next to the victim, the man got up to leave and was shot in the buttocks as he headed for the exit.

The victim, the shooter and the woman all ran off the bus and fled in different directions, police sources said.

Cops found the victim a short distance away. EMS rushed him to Kings County Hospital where he was expected to survive.

No arrests have been made. The man and woman are believed to be 19.

There were 75 people on the bus when the shot rang out, police sources said. No one else was injured.

It was not immediately clear what sparked the shooting or if the victim was the intended target.

On Wednesday, cops released images of who they believe are responsible for the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS.
