Insane Clown Posse in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame? You asked for it.

Turns out you can’t keep a good Juggalo down. Let alone an army of them.

In February, we invited Detroit Free Press readers to cast their votes in a poll that asked: Which Detroit and Michigan artists deserve a spot in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame?

We pointed out that while Detroit is generously represented in the rock hall — on Wednesday, the Spinners became the city’s 21st honoree — there are plenty of notable names still on the sidelines.

So our poll listed 30 genre-spanning Michigan artists, along with a write-in option. Voting wrapped up earlier this week.

With more than 95,000 votes cast, the verdict was definitive: Insane Clown Posse, driven by its legion of fans known as Juggalos, topped the survey by a monster margin. The Faygo-spraying, makeup-clad rap duo was selected by more than 31% of those who voted.

Clocking in second was Kid Rock, with Grand Funk Railroad, Ted Nugent and Diana Ross rounding out the top five. You can view the full results below.

Ross and Iggy Pop (ranked seventh) are already hall of fame members via their groups the Supremes and the Stooges, but aren't yet inducted for their solo careers.

From February onward, ICP fans were on a mission, sharing the poll on social media and encouraging fellow Juggalos to take part.

The final poll results reflect that kind of online impact: Some veteran artists with older fan bases ranked lower in the survey, while those with active, savvy digital audiences tended to do well.

As for the write-in option? No artist there managed to crack the top 30, although Twiztid, ICP’s onetime Psychopathic Records labelmate, racked up its fair share of write-ins. There were local bar bands and underground favorites (like Negative Approach), along with visiting acts beloved in the Motor City ("J. Geils Band, even though they're from Boston," as one voter lobbied).

Some poll participants wrote in Detroit artists who are already in the RRHOF, such as Bob Seger, Martha Reeves, Eminem and Alice Cooper.

Note that while this was never meant to be a scientific survey — it was just a fun poll, after all — the Freep did take steps to mitigate efforts by some overenthusiastic fans out to game the results.
