Insane Wrestling makes an impact on crowd in Ottawa County debut

OAK HARBOR ― It was an event for wrestling fans of all ages Wednesday night at Damschroder Hall on the Ottawa County Fairgrounds as Insane Wrestling Revolution brought its first event to Ottawa County.

There was a lot of smack talk, tag-team championship matches and an insane rules event that extended into the audience, complete with smashing chairs, trash cans over heads and a wrestler tackled into a door.

First Ottawa County IWR audience includes 300 fans

About 300 people attended the first-of-its-kind event, organizer Billy Rigoni said.

“It’s going great,” Rigoni said before the final match.

IWR is the product of pro wrestler Terry “Rhino” Gerin, who spent time in Port Clinton as a child and wanted to bring family-friendly entertainment to the area.

Fremont siblings enjoy watching their first wrestling match

Elijah Gardner, age 8, and Lincoln Gardner, 9, both of Fremont, traveled with their dad, Zach Gilks, for the event.

The boys love wrestling, and Gilks said this was their first wrestling event together.

“It’s a great deal, $80 for the night; it’s great,” Gilks said of the family's night out.

They plan to attend a RAW event in Toledo and wanted to test how it might go, he said.

Throughout the matches Lincoln and Elijah participated by yelling and cheering for their favorite wrestlers, getting an up-close look when the fights broke out of the ring and into the seats.

“Kick his butt!” one yelled, as the other cheered.

Rhino teamed up with Franchise Shane Douglas and Jacob “Madman Fulton” Southwick in his 3-on-3 match against antagonizing Canadian wrestlers, which got the crowd on their feet to end the night.

The night ended with Rhino tackling a Canadian into a door, eliciting cheers from all.

Reception was so great that the IWR will return to the fairgrounds for a second event May 8, Rhino confirmed.
