Inside the Wyoming Ranch Where Kanye West Wrote His Upcoming Album, “Donda”
Kanye West made headlines last week when he premiered his upcoming album “Donda” at a listening party in Atlanta. And while it’s not clear when the album will officially release, we do know where it was written: at a $14.5 million estate in Wyoming, known as Bighorn Mountain Ranch.
Situated on 6,713 acres, this expansive property includes a home that boasts seven bedrooms and seven bathrooms. West purchased the dwelling for $14.5 million in 2019. According to a property listing from Hayden Outdoors, the ranch was originally known as Cow Camp, when the Flitner family owned it in the early 1900s. Until 2019, it had never been on the market before.
The ranch boasts numerous lodges, including: the Lodge at Bald Ridge, which boasts five bedrooms and four bathrooms; the Snowshoe Lodge and Cabins, which features a main lodge with three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a basement with a wet bar, and a walk-in sauna, as well as a cabin area with an expansive garage; and the Cow Camp cabin, which is a restored 1900s cabin with a water source from a nearby spring.
So, why did West move to Wyoming of all places? Erik Gunther, a celebrity real estate expert at Realtor.com, tells House Beautiful, “Kanye's Bighorn Mountain Ranch covers nearly 7,000 acres, which allows him all the space he needs to focus on his art.” He adds, “It's also a place with plenty of guest accommodations—important for an artist who thrives on collaboration.”
