The Insider: Tropically chic generations mix and 'Flamingle' at pink Colony bash

Multiple generations of Palm Beachers donned their finest tropical chic and headed to The Colony hotel for the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital annual benefit.

That first paragraph tells you how much Palm Beach has changed since I first darkened the Shiny Sheet's door four decades ago.

More Palm Beach society news here.

Back then, there was only one generation — old — and any reference to ''multiple'' was invariably followed by ''vitamins'' or ''fractures.''

But no more. Now, happily, its everybody in the pool.

Lourdes Fanjul and Talbott Maxey were chairwomen of “Flamingle for the Kids,” which took place March 31 at the appropriately pink hotel.

The evening included Palm Beach-inspired cocktails and specialty drinksicles from The Colony’s popsicle cart; Cuban music by the Oriente Quartet; and remarks from Chad Buschell, area executive director for ALSAC, the fund-raising and awareness arm of the hospital.

“Because of generous donors like everyone here today, families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food, so they can focus on helping their child live,” Buschell said. “St. Jude shares the breakthroughs it makes, and every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands more children."

Tom Quick, chairman for the event, also spoke.

“Cancer is a multi-trillion-dollar, multi-year problem requiring millions of supporters coming together to solve,” Quick said. “Funds raised will help fuel the six-year, $11.5 billion St. Jude strategic plan that expands patient care and research and triples its global investment to impact more of the 400,000 kids with cancer around the world each year."

The evening raised more than $250,000 for the hospital.
