Insidious: The Red Door's UK digital release date has been confirmed.

The Sony Pictures demon-fest, which is directed by Patrick Wilson, will become available to buy or rent from Monday, August 21, including on platforms like Prime Video.

The fifth film in the series, The Red Door became the highest-grossing horror movie of the year last week, surpassing M3GAN.

The achievement came despite less than favourable critic reviews, with the movie's Rotten Tomatoes score currently at 39%.

Earlier this year, Ty Simpkins, who plays Dalton Lambert, discussed The Red Door's many squeamish practical effects sequences, recalling to Digital Spy: "They had a hose attached to this dude's cheek and I think we did it three times with the vomit and I have pictures from that day.

"I was drenched in all this gross stuff, but it was fun. I was very excited to film that scene and it was the last shot of a day, it was 3am and I was just getting vomited on my face to wake me up."

Rose Byrne, Lin Shaye and Leigh Whannell also return alongside Wilson and Simpkins for the sequel.

Shaye recently suggested an idea for a potential future spin-off focusing on her character Elise.

"I think for Elise, there's more to do," she said. "The fact that she is in the Further, and I have this one thought that I haven't even talked about really to anybody, but that she's able to transform. She has transformational qualities that we don't know about, and that could open up a whole new set of characters for her and for a storyline."
