Inspectors discover outdated food and bare hands touching food at Myrtle Beach area spots
Each week we report a list of restaurant inspections in the Myrtle Beach area that inspectors have performed.
A follow-up story is done most weeks so we can tell you, our readers, who did not receive an “A” grade and give you some of the reasons why.
This week inspectors did not award 6 area restaurants with an “A” grade. Each of these restaurants had violations and will be receiving a follow-up inspection within the next 10 days.
Routine Inspection - Unannounced and conducted on a frequency determined by the facility’s Risk Category on a frequency of one to four times a year.
Follow-Up Inspection - Conducted within ten days of a Routine Inspection that requires follow-up verification.
Four Points, 101 Fantasy Harbour Blvd., Myrtle Beach, had a routine inspection on March 8 and scored 80 percent “B” grade. A hand sink had been removed behind the bar area. must have a hand sink available for employees to wash hands, uncovered bowl of sugar on the cook line observed with clumps of discolored sugar and storing a spoon, on the cook line: marinara sauce, pizza sauce, precooked sausage crumbles,shredded cheese, deli sliced ham - all with discard date of March 1, no thermometer observed on the inside of the walk in cooler, case of tortillas observed being stored on the floor of dry storage, tray storing coffee cups stored on the floor in banquet storage. A follow-up inspection will be performed within 10 days according the the SC Food Grade Report.
Lucky Panda, 1399 S. Commons Dr., Myrtle Beach, had a routine inspection on March 10 and scored 81 percent “B” grade. Empty bottles and trash were being stored in hand sink, a knife and peeler being stored with clean equipment had food debris, ready to eat foods were observed as prepared and held beyond 24 hours, without any date marking, observed shrimp and chicken thawing in standing water, soiled surfaces around cooking area and drink crates being reused as food shelving, The floor below the fryers was soiled with grease, grime and debris. A follow-up inspection will be performed within 10 days according to the SC Food Grade Report.
Papas Pizza, 111 Pavillion Dr., Ste. 24, Little River, had a routine inspection on March 6 and scored 80 percent “B” grade. Hand sink had no paper towels, improper holding temperatures for cooling food, large portions of pizza sauce and grilled onions stored in large covered containers that do not facilitate proper cooling, box of chicken stored on floor of walk in cooler, observed exterior of pot with heavy buildup of carbon, floor damage in walk in cooler, large open area above screen on backdoor. A follow-up inspection will be performed within 10 days according to the SC Food Grade Report.
Portofino Italian Cuisine, 9734 N. Kings Hwy., Myrtle Beach, had a routine inspection on March 9 and scored 81 percent “B” grade. Employee drinks stored on food preparation area without lids, employee was observed touching bread for tables with bare hands, knife stored in hand sink, fish being washed off in hand sink on food preparation line, raw hamburger meat in standing water at 63 degrees, raw shrimp and fish in standing water at 63 degrees, food left on clean side drain board during dish washing, containers of food stored in with risotto.,exterior of containers are not clean and may not be stored in other food products. A follow-up inspection will be performed within 10 days according to the SC Food Grade Report.
Prime Chicken, 2297 S. Kings Hwy., Myrtle Beach, had a routine inspection on March 9 and scored 83 percent “B” grade. No sanitizer available in the facility, improper holding temperatures for hot food, sanitizer bucket not registering sanitizer, less than 20 ft candles of light at bar 3-comp sink and hand sink, fryers being propped up into place with unsecured stacked tiles, holes in walls and around drink lines, gap around outlets and wall, underside of bar top is bare wood. A follow-up inspection will be performed within 10 days according to the SC Food Grade Report.
Surfside Charlies, 800 U.S. 17, Surfside Beach, had a routine inspection on March 6 and scored 81 percent “B” grade. The hand sink in the dish area has supplies in it and does not have running water, the hand sink behind the bar and at the dish washing station does not have soap readily available, the hand sink behind the bar and dish washing station does not have paper towels readily available, the interior of the ice machine is soiled with grime, observed partially cooked chicken wings in the walk-in cooler, These wings are still raw in the center, WD-40 being stored alongside food items, on a prep shelf above above prep surfaces, observed cooked fries cooling in deep container in the walk-in cooler--the product did not meet proper cooling rate, observed cooked chicken cooling on a prep table at room temperature, the product did not meet proper cooling rate. A follow-up inspection will be performed within 10 days according to the SC Food Grade Report.
