Facebook said Instagram is back up after a "technical issue" caused some users issues accessing the popular social media app.
"We resolved the issue for everyone who was impacted, and we apologize for any inconvenience," said Instagram owner Facebook early Friday in a statement emailed to USA TODAY.
Initial reports on the website Down Detector, which tracks when web services are down, showed users first noting problems accessing Instagram after 6:30 am ET Thursday. Access appeared intermittent, according to Down Detector, as more users reported problems starting after 3 p.m. ET.
During the outage, several Instagram users turned to other social media including Twitter to vent about not having access to the app:
