Instant analysis: Chiefs cruise past Washington, 30-13

The Kansas City Chiefs improved to 3-3 on the season after defeating the Washington Football Team, 31-13, in Week 6 action.

Believe it or not, Washington actually led this game 13-10 at halftime, thanks to three Kansas City turnovers in the first 30 minutes. Unfortunately for Washington, its offense failed to capitalize on those turnovers, and Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was his usual self in the second half.

Washington’s defense gave up over 200 yards passing in the first half, but in addition to the turnovers, the defensive line applied consistent pressure on Mahomes. The second interception directly resulted from pressure applied to Mahomes, which helped Washington go in the half with a three-point lead.

Washington quarterback Taylor Heinicke completed 24 of 39 passes for 182 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Heinicke struggled to get going the entire game, throwing short of the first-down marker, completing passes behind the line of scrimmage and never using his legs.

It was another day of missed opportunities for Heinicke. Heinicke missed low on several throws and also continued to miss high.

Washington running back Antonio Gibson carried the ball 10 times for 44 yards and lost a key fumble in the first half. He left the game late with an injury.

Mahomes completed 32 of 47 passes for 397 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Washington’s defense allowed 499 total yards and the Chiefs converted 11 of 17 on third downs.

Next up for Washington is a trip to Green Bay.
