‘The instruction I received is incredible,’ Students complete new IT program through MCEOC

The first group of students to complete the new Information Technology Fundamentals Certification offered through the Montgomery County Employment Opportunity Center (MCEOC) were recognized by Sinclair Community College and Montgomery County at a special event on Friday.

“Montgomery County is incredibly proud of these students, the first of many, who are gaining vital skills and knowledge to advance their careers in computer science,” Montgomery County Commissioner, Carolyn Rice, said. “Our partnership with Sinclair Community College will continue to spark innovative ideas that support the citizens of Montgomery County.”

Sinclair and Montgomery County established this partnership to help prepare individuals for in-demand jobs in computer science and information technology, according to a press release from the Chief of Public Information for Sinclair, Cathy Peterson.

Three of the five students completing the program were recognized at a special event on October 21st at the MCEOC, the release said.

“The instruction I received is incredible,” student Janisa Allen said about the program. “I know this certification will allow me to stand out to employers who are looking for specific skills in their employees.”

The course provides students with knowledge on programming techniques and languages, various computer operating systems, application software and the underlying hardware elements of modern computers, Peterson said in the release.

Now that the students have completed the course, they are preparing to take their certification test, according to the release.

The next certification course will begin on November 14th, Peterson said.
