Instructor arrested for making threats to Fresno City College dean and students

A Fresno City College instructor was arrested Tuesday for threatening violence on a dean and to students, the school’s police department said.

The campus was placed on lockdown for about 20 minutes Tuesday starting just after 7:30 a.m., which followed the threats made by Richard Gregory Fine, 36, according to the State Center Community College Police Department.

“Richard Fine began calling and texting an FCC Dean threatening violence against them and their family,” the police said in a release. “Mr. Fine also allegedly threatened violence against all students at FCC.”

Fine is listed as a theater and dance instructor at the school, according to a roster.

Police said Fine was placed in custody on Tuesday. Fresno County Jail records showed he was not in custody on Wednesday.

But Fresno police spokesman Bill Dooley later said Fine was subsequently detained for a 72-hour evaluation at a mental health facility.

The FCC police department issued a warning to students and staffers saying Fine was no longer allowed on campus, and anyone who sees him should report it to the police.

The school is under its summer session so is much less active than during the school year.

The police department is required to make the campus aware of certain incidents under the federal Clery Act of 1998.

Police say if he’s spotted on campus, call 559-244-6140 or 911.
