Intense Rain and Wind Lashes Orlando as Hurricane Ian Approaches

Heavy rain and strong winds battered Orlando, Florida, as Hurricane Ian approached on September 28.

This footage, filmed by Amber Helton shows wind and rain lashing the windows of a home, as the storm’s outer bands wreaked havoc.

The National Weather Service warned that conditions were expected to deteriorate overnight, with hurricane force winds and catastrophic flooding set to hit the region.

Orlando International Airport said in a Twitter post they had ceased commercial operations in anticipation of the arrival of Hurricane Ian.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) said Ian made landfall at Cayo Costa on Wednesday afternoon as an “extremely dangerous” Category 4 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 150 mph.

As of around 8 pm local time, Ian had decreased in strength to a category 3 storm, with maximum sustained winds of 115 mph, according to the NHC. Credit: Amber Helton via Storyful
