Interim principal named at Southwood High as Pendleton retires

On Nov. 4, Southwood High School parents received a letter from the Caddo Parish School Board announcing the retirement of Dr. Kim Pendleton.

Pendleton joined the school in 2019 and after serving as the principal of Northwood High School since 2012. She was an advocate for Dads on Duty stating in a past interview with the Shreveport Times, "I knew I needed support, and I am a strong advocate for parents. I believe in that partnership and the community."

The letter parents received said, "Dr. Kim Pendleton, Principal of Southwood High School, has made the decision to retire. We wish Dr. Pendleton all the best and appreciated her service to Caddo Schools. We also are aware that Southwood deserves a proven leader to ensure stability through this time of transition."

The letter went on to say that Dr. Lamar Goree, Caddo Parish Schools Superintendent has appointed Betty Jordan to serve as the interim principal. She has served as principal of Woodlawn, Booker T. Washington, Bethune and Broadmoor.

Jordan's role as interim principal will begin immediately.

Goree said in the letter, "Your participation in this process is critical. Please know how much we value the education of your child and seek to ensure Southwood provides access and opportunities for every student to pursue the career of their dreams."
