International cybersecurity forum opens in Kyiv

The two-day Kyiv International Cyber Resilience Forum 2024 began in the Ukrainian capital on Feb. 7. NV will be covering the forum as part of our media support for the event.

The forum features participants from the government, tech companies, and cybersecurity experts.

The forum was opened by Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) secretary, Oleksiy Danilov. He said that the modern world requires Ukraine to have a robust cybersecurity policy, especially during the ongoing war with Russia.

The opening session included appearances by:

- Ukraine’s Digital Transformation Minister, Mykhailo Fedorov

- Deputy Foreign Minister for Digital Development, Anton Demokhin;

- Deputy Defense Minister for Digital Development, Kateryna Chernohorenko;

- CEO of CRDF Global, Michael Dignam.

Also delivering speeches were representatives of the international cybersecurity community, including:

- U.S. Special Envoy for Cyberspace and Digital Policy Nathaniel Fick;

- Director of Security and Defense Policy at the European External Action Service Joanneke Balfoort;

- Director of the European Union Agency for Network and Information Security (ENISA) Juhan Lepassaar;

- Head of the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence (CCDCOE) Mart Noorma;

- Director of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) Jen Easterly.

“Despite the ongoing war in cyberspace and the physical world, we must advance two ideas,” Fick said in his keynote address.

“The first is resilience, which is the theme that has brought us together… The second is digital solidarity. Cyber threats and challenges present us with a unique opportunity and a sense of necessity to stand shoulder to shoulder with our partners and allies.”

The two-day forum program includes panel discussions and expert presentations on various aspects of cyber resilience. Topics range from the first global cyberwar and Ukrainian experience with it to fostering cooperation between public and private sector in the realm of cybersecurity.

The event was founded by Ukraine's National Cybersecurity Coordination Center (NCCC) and the United States Civilian Research and Development Foundation (CRDF Global). The forum is held with the support of the U.S. State Department.
