Interstate 70 west, South Fourth Street to remain closed for several days after semi hits bridge

Parts of Interstate 70 west and South Fourth Street will be closed for several days for repairs after a crash early Saturday evening.

Officers responded about 4:45 p.m. Saturday to a report of a semi that hit the South Fourth Street bridge over I-70, according to the Columbus Division of Police.

"The damage to the bridge was so severe that I-70 westbound and S. 4th St. will need to be closed for several days," according to police.

Authorities have set up the following detours:

  • Interstate 70 west to I-71 north to I-670 west, back to I-70 west

  • Interstate 71 south to I-70 east to I-270 south, back to I-71 south

Authorities encourage motorists to use High Street or South Grant Avenue instead of South Fourth Street. Meanwhile, I-70 east will remain open.
