One of the Miami Dolphins’ candidates to replace head coach Brian Flores will reportedly have his interview for the job on Wednesday.

Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer reported Tuesday that San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel will have his formal interview with the Dolphins. The interview will take place via a videoconference, according to Breer, because of the 49ers’ short week of practice. San Francisco plays an NFC Divisional Round playoff game at the Green Bay Packers on Saturday.

McDaniel, 38, is finishing his first season as 49ers offensive coordinator. He previously was San Francisco’s run-game coordinator from 2017 to 2020.

San Francisco ranked seventh in rushing yards per game this season (127.4) and second in 2019 (144.1).

Prior to his time with the 49ers, McDaniel was an offensive assistant for the Atlanta Falcons from 2015-2016, wide receivers coach for the Cleveland Browns in 2014 and the Washington Redskins in 2013 (where he also served as an offensive assistant in 2011 and 2012), running backs coach for the Sacramento Mountain Lions of the United Football League from 2009-2010, an offensive assistant for the Houston Texans from 2006-2008 and an intern with the Denver Broncos in 2005.

McDaniel is one of seven coaching candidates the Dolphins have requested to interview to replace Brian Flores.

The others: Los Angeles Rams running backs coach and assistant head coach Thomas Brown, Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll, Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier, Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore and defensive coordinator Dan Quinn and Cardinals defensive coordinator Vance Joseph.
