MEG LUDEMANN: When it comes to the use of intimacy coordinators on set, the actor's union is making some adjustments to their standards and protocols. And if you're wondering what exactly is an intimacy coordinator, it's probably what you think. Just like what it sounds like, they're the liaisons between actors and production for nudity and intimate scenes on set.
However, SAG-AFTRA is now making its standards so intimacy coordinators can talk about what went down with an actor while filming only if the actor gives permission to do so. The actor's union wasn't happy recently when an intimacy coordinator gave an interview to the "Daily Mail" about Jenna Ortega's new movie called "Miller's Girl." The movie depicts an intimate scene between Ortega and Martin Freeman, which drew backlash because of their 31-year age gap.
During the interview, the coordinator said Ortega was fully comfortable with it and detailed the levels of nudity. According to "Deadline," intimacy coordinators who fail to stick to the rules could be removed from SAG-AFTRA's registry.
