Introducing the Des Moines Register's 2022 All-Iowa girls tennis selections
The Des Moines Register’s All-Iowa girls tennis selections are split up among an all-class Elite Team and an all-class list of honorable mentions.
Ten members comprise the Elite Team, and another 20 make up the honorable mention list. Names are listed in alphabetical order.

Elite team
Ally Burger, sr., Cedar Rapids Xavier
One half of Cedar Rapids Xavier's daunting doubles tandem, Burger and playing partner Courtney Carstensen captured the Class 1A doubles title.
Courtney Carstensen, sr., Cedar Rapids Xavier
The other half of Cedar Rapids Xavier's championship duo, Carstensen and playing partner Ally Burger won their second straight 1A doubles title.
Claire Gu, jr., Valley
Gu didn't drop a set at the state tournament en route to winning the 2A singles title over Dowling Catholic's Allison Szalay.
Katelynn Kock, soph., Cedar Rapids Washington
One half of Cedar Rapids Washington's championship duo, Kock and playing partner Kathryn Zylstra took home the 2A doubles championship.
Maya Mallavarapu, jr., Cedar Falls
Despite falling to Gu in the semfinals, Mallavarapu rebounded to finish third in the 2A singles bracket.
Kira Smith, fr., Ankeny
Not many freshmen make it onto this list, but Smith was one of the state's best en route to a fourth-place finish at the 2A singles tournament.
Allison Szalay, sr., Dowling Catholic
Szalay was brilliant this season from start to finish, leading to a runner-up finish at the 2A singles tournament. The only sets Szalay droped at the state meet were in the finals versus Gu.
Ella Tallett, sr., Cedar Rapids Xavier
Tallett completed the Cedar Rapids Xavier sweep, adding a 1A singles title to go with the Saints' winning doubles tandem.
Le Yuan Sun, sr., Shenandoah
Yuan Sun gave Tallett all she had in the 2A singles final before coming up just short for a runner-up finish.
Kathryn Zylstra, jr., Cedar Rapids Washington
The other half of Cedar Rapids Washington's dynamic duo, Zylstra helped guide the Warriors to a 2A doubles state title.
