Here are the top stories in Scottsdale today:

  1. Two educators are now atop the Scottsdale Unified School District Governing Board.
Former educator Julie Cieniawski is president of the SUSD board, and Dr. Libby Hart-Wells, a community college professor, is vice president, according to a report in the Scottsdale Independent. The vote happened at the Jan. 11 meeting following current president Patty Beckman's withdrawal of her candidacy. Click here to read the Cieniawski and Hart-Wells bios in their entirety. 2. Open and unlocked garage doors proved too tempting to Kywan Anglin and Selena Blanco, who heisted more than $60,000 from unsuspecting Scottsdalians. The AZ Family report said that the couple was arrested after finding them driving in a stolen car on Jan. 6, police said. According to the article, "items stolen included high-end bicycles, dirt bike-style motorcycles, a motorized scooter, tools, computer equipment and more." (Arizona's Family)

  3. According to a report in the Scottsdale Independent, "Worldwide Women's Film Festival will screen 89 short films, documentary films, features, documentary features, web series, and music videos during its fourth annual festival." The festival is scheduled at the Harkins Shea 14 Theatres, 7354 E. Shea Blvd. in Scottsdale, on Feb. 18-20. Kim A. Huenecke is the event founder and reported her delight at returning to the festival in person. Strict safety protocols will be in effect: "We will have extra masks and hand sanitizer available for filmgoers,"Huenecke said. For more information and updates, visit wwfilmfestival.org.
