Indian American entrepreneur V. A. Shiva Ayyadurai, who claims to have "invented email," has shown interest in becoming Twitter’s new CEO.

Days after current Twitter CEO Elon Musk said that he will be stepping down "as soon as I find someone foolish enough to take the job," Ayyadurai, 59, tweeted his interest in the role.

“I am interested in the CEO position @Twitter," he wrote on Saturday. "I have 4 degrees from MIT & have created 7 successful high-tech software companies. Kindly advise of the process to apply. Sincerely, Dr. Shiva Ayyadurai, MIT PhD, The Inventor of Email."

Ayyadurai, who is also a politician and engineer, has four degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), including a PhD in biological engineering.

In 1978, at just 14 years old, he reportedly invented a computer program called “email." Although several critics have argued that Ray Tomlinson invented email, the U.S. Copyright Office awarded Ayyadurai the first Copyright for "email" in 1982, officially recognizing him as the inventor of email.

Ayyadurai’s tweet has already gone viral in less than a week, garnering over 10.4 million views and 80,300 likes.
