Investigation Discovery episode focuses on 2018 murder of Akron woman Samantha Guthrie
A 2022 episode of a true crime show takes a look at the murder of an Akron woman.
"The Murder Tapes," on the ID channel, focuses on Samantha Guthrie, 18, who was discovered with a single gunshot wound to the head on the east side of Rex Hill Road, about a quarter-mile north of Vanderhoof Road in New Franklin.
Four people were arrested in relation to the disappearance of Guthrie, who was last seen in the early hours of Nov. 4, 2018, at a house in the 300 block of Lillian Street, a few blocks from the Akron Zoo. Police have said she disappeared under suspicious circumstances.
According to four affidavits filed in Akron Municipal Court, William Alexander, 38, of Akron was arrested on charges of abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence, and Danny Hamby, 39, of Akron; Dylan Brown, 19, of Akron; and Toni Kenney, 31, of Akron were each arrested on charges of tampering with evidence and obstructing justice.
Hamby and Kenney ultimately pleaded guilty for their roles in Guthrie's death. Hamby was sentenced to life while Kenney was sentenced to 16 years. Alexander sentenced to 10 years while Brown was sentenced to 5 years probation.
