Trenton William Stewart Legacy Scholarship applications are open to St. Johns County — including St. Augustine proper — graduating seniors intending to play college football.

Scholarship requirements include a passion for playing collegiate football; drive and perseverance; school and community leadership; a strong work ethic on and off the field; and a dedication to living a drug-free life while being the best they can be every single day.

Applications must include an essay that states one’s goals, aspirations, and characteristics that best describe a successful collegiate football player. The applications must also include letters of recommendations, one from a teacher and one from a coach; GPA scores; honor acknowledgements; as well as a list of extracurricular and volunteer activities.

Applications are due on Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2024. Scholarship recipients will be announced in Februray 2024.

Scholarships will be granted upon admission to school and the collegiate team.

The Trenton William Stewart Legacy Foundation was established by Mandi Stewart, Trenton’s mother, upon the loss of her only child from an automobile accident in Jacksonville in May.

In a recent press release, Stewart described her son as the perfect example of a collegiate athlete. At the time of his death, the 18-year-old Creekside High School graduate was attending Stetson University in DeLand.

“The scholarship recipient will embody the characteristics that made Trenton the young man he was,” said Stewart. “Trenton’s life was cut short by a reckless driver who was driving with substances in his system. The recipient will also dedicate themselves to living a drug-free life.”

Stewart described her son as having determination, commitment, dedication and an absolute love for football.

“Our son had an unwavering commitment to not quitting,” she said. “He was dedicated to being the best version of himself, on and off the field.”

Five annual $1,000 scholarships are available for students intending to pursue collegiate football while maintaining a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

“And most importantly, they must be responsible and display integrity in school and in the community,” said Stewart.
