Investment firm Northern Trust moving Tampa office to Water Street tower

An investment firm’s Tampa office is moving from a vintage brick building to a sparkling new tower up the road.

Northern Trust Corp. has leased more than 10,000 square feet on the ninth floor of the Thousand & One office tower at 1001 Water St. in downtown’s $3.5 billion Water Street Tampa development, Water Street developers Strategic Property Partners announced Tuesday.

“This move is a continuation of Northern Trust’s decades-long investment in the Tampa Bay community,” Dan Honegger, Tampa Bay president for the Chicago firm, said in a statement. “We are looking forward to serving our clients in the fully modernized suites at Thousand & One, which will provide enhanced meeting space, room for future growth and access to a rooftop terrace for special events.”

In the past 15 months, Thousand & One has signed a handful of tenants to leases of at least 10,000 square feet, including accounting firm RSM, Georgia bank Synovus and real estate investment firm Sila Realty Trust. Cybersecurity company ReliaQuest announced last summer that it would move its headquarters to Thousand & One, leasing 145,000 square feet across seven floors and putting its name atop the building.

The move means Northern Trust will be vacating its offices at 425 N Florida Ave., where the firm’s name sits atop the six-story 1962 building. A listing for the space says more than 16,000 square feet in that building will be available by January, with “rare building naming rights” available.

Northern Trust will move into Thousand & One in the coming months, Strategic Property Partners said.
