Iowa City man dies after car strikes semi

A 22-year-old Iowa City man died early Saturday after the car he was driving struck a semi that was making a U-turn on Highway 1.

The Iowa State Patrol reported that Riley Reynolds died at the site of the crash near 280th Street at 2:14 a.m. Reynolds was driving a 2005 Ford Taurus southbound when he ran into the semi driven by Parvinder Kaur, 38, of Elk Grove, California.

Kaur, driving a truck owned by Somal Brothers Trucking Inc. of Sacramento, California, was completing his U-turn with the trailer blocking the southbound lane. Reynolds crashed into the trailer and his car entered the ditch, causing the fatal injury, the State Patrol report said.

The crash remains under investigation by the State Patrol. There was no report of injury to Kaur.
