An Iowa high school football player had over 400 yards rushing to lead Week 6's top performers

Week 6 of the Iowa high school football season brought with it incredible games — and stellar individual performances as well.

The top-10 teams in Class 5A will certainly be shifting around this week, with No. 6 Urbandale falling to No. 8 Ankeny Centennial. No. 5 Cedar Rapids Kennedy dropped its first game of the campaign this week too, meaning they'll certainly be dropping in the standings.

Along with those upsets, there were plenty of blowouts or other close games that saw clutch performers put the team on their back and will them to a victory on Friday night. Here are some of the top performers from around the state from Week 6 of high school football action.

Iowa high school football coverage from Week 6

Gabe Gunn, Des Moines North RB

The Polar Bears may have fallen short in their loss to the Roosevelt Roughriders, but it wasn't because of Gunn's efforts. The running back scored four touchdowns in the game and added 117 yards in the effort. He took up the mantle for Aron Gonkaryon, the state's leader in all-purpose yards heading into Week 6, who Roosevelt made a plan to shut down on the night. He also added one successful 2-point conversion.

Ty Cozad, Muscatine RB

The senior boasted an absurd 450 yards and five touchdowns, breaking his own school record for scores and yards in a single game. Muscatine came away with a big 42-31 win over Hempstead. His longest scamper on the night went for 98 yards.

Jaxon Cherry, Webster City RB

Cherry put on a show during the first two quarters of Friday's 28-7 win over LeMars. By halftime, he racked up 233 yards and three scores on just 13 carries. He finished the night with one more score, meaning outside of PATs he scored every point for Webster City in the victory.

Iowa City Liberty quarterback Graham Beckman had a six-touchdown night on Friday.

Graham Beckman, Iowa City Liberty QB

The Lightning signal-caller had six touchdowns in the first half in the Liberty's big win over Mt. Pleasant. Liberty ended up winning the game 68-6, but was 47-0 after Beckman's sixth score. The win moves Liberty to 5-1 on the season.

Trenton Smith, Ankeny Centennial QB

The Jags quarterback helped lead an upset victory over No. 6 Urbandale. He tossed four touchdowns, one in each quarter, and amassed 241 yards. He was efficient too, hitting on 18 of his 24 pass attempts. The highlight of the night was a 77-yard bomb to Max Snyder that put Centennial up for good in their 28-23 win.

Waukee Northwest defense

The Wolves' defense limited No. 9 Sioux City East to just one score in Northwest's 17-7 win. They grabbed three turnovers and held East's quarterback to just 166 yards passing on 47 attempts.

Abu Sama, Southeast Polk RB

The Rams' rusher seems to be on this list more often than not at the end of every Friday. The Iowa State commit had four touchdowns in No. 4 SEP's massive 47-27 win over Linn Marr. That brings his total number of scores up to 11 on the season. Oh, by the way, he's only played in four games.

Solon defense

The Spartans got a 44-0 win over Washington on Friday night, marking their second straight shutout win. This one was probably more impressive than the last though. Solon nabbed four turnovers in the victory. That marks three shutouts on the season for the Spartans' defense.

Drew Kingery, Indianola WR

The Indianola pass-catcher was on fire in their 45-33 win over Norwalk. He scored three touchdowns on the night, none more important than an 83-yard score late in the fourth quarter. He caught the ball just a few yards past the line of scrimmage, but shed a tackle, stiff-armed a defender to the ground and used his speed to make it all the way to paydirt to ice the game.

Ottumwa's offensive line

Let's shine a light on the big boy in the trenches for a moment. The offensive line for Ottumwa led a punishing rushing attack in their 54-6 win over Cedar Rapids Jefferson on Friday night. The Bulldogs had three ball carriers eclipse the 100-yard rushing mark. The offense as a whole rattled off 485 of their 542 total yards on the ground.
