Four state titles. Zero high school losses. Incredible.
Kueter, will go down as one of Iowa’s all-time best high school athletes — a world champion wrestler, an All-American football player, a standout in both track and baseball. And now, a four-time state champion. He wrote the final chapter of his sensational prep career at the state wrestling championships this week at Wells Fargo Arena.

A freshman state champ at 195lbs in #iahswr’s large class. Let that sink in, you guys. Dreshaun is something special.— Cody Goodwin (@codygoodwin) February 19, 2023

Logan-Magnolia's Wyatt Reisz goes from defending a shot to scoring two at the gun in sudden victory to win 6-4 over New London's Dom Lopez at 1A-160. Incredibly close call on the 2 there. Refs awarded it after talking it over after time ran out. Reisz is now a 3-timer. #iahswr
— Cody Goodwin (@codygoodwin) February 19, 2023

1A: No. 1 Garret Rinken (Nashua-Plainfield) vs No. 6 Dawson Schmit (Wapsie Valley), 13-3
Cale Seaton gets it done, 4-3 over Jabari Hinson to win 3A-126. That dude shredded his right knee a few weeks ago — torn meniscus and MCL, partly torn ACL, ruptured patella — but rehabbed, was strategic, then ran the gauntlet to win a title. “A miracle,” his coach says. #iahswr

— Cody Goodwin (@codygoodwin) February 19, 2023
Lisbon’s Brandon Paez pins West Hancock’s Teague Smith in exactly two minutes at 120lbs to win his third Class 1A state title. Underrated dude in #iahswr’s small class.

Don Bosco has clinched the Class 1A team title — it’s fifth in a row, it’s 11th in the last 17 years, and 15th all-time. They are the only #iahswr team to 5-peat twice (did it in 2006-10, too).

Black has long been a hero-turned-mentor for Utterback growing up, so much that when someone mentioned that Black was the only Iowa girl state wrestling medalist, Utterback would quickly respond, “So far!” It was an outward expression of her goals, but also a promise to her coaches, parents, and teammates who supported her.
