Iowa man becomes second suspect charged in 2020 double homicide on Columbus' Far West Side
A Franklin County grand jury has indicted an Iowa man in connection with an August 2020 shooting that ended with two men dead and a third injured.
Tyrone Copeland, 29, of Waterloo, Iowa, was indicted Wednesday on 19 counts in Franklin County Common Pleas Court in connection with the Aug. 5, 2020 shooting deaths of Marquayvius McGill, 24, and Dominique Freeman, 21.
An arrest warrant has been issued for Copeland.

McGill and Freeman, who were both from Lima, Ohio, were found shot around 11:40 p.m. in the parking lot of the Hidden Creek Apartments on the 4800 block of Timberwood Drive North on Columbus' Far West Side. They were both pronounced dead at the scene.
An investigation determined that a 26-year-old was also injured in the shooting, and a fourth person was in the area of the shooting but was not injured.
According to court records, Copeland and a 20-year-old woman, Darian Slaise, of Lima, Ohio, have both been charged in connection with the case. Copeland faces four counts of kidnapping, six counts of aggravated murder, four counts of murder, two counts of attempted murder, two counts of felonious assault and a single count of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

Should Copeland be convicted, court records indicate prosecutors intend to seek additional prison time under a portion of Ohio law that allows for increased sentences for defendants found to be repeat violent offenders.
Slaise entered guilty pleas to two counts of involuntary manslaughter and kidnapping, as well as a count of obstructing justice, earlier this month. She has not yet been sentenced.
