Can anyone catch Donald Trump?

A new Des Moines Register/NBC News/Mediacom Iowa Poll of the 2024 election cycle will reveal whether likely Republican caucusgoers still strongly support the former president — or whether Trump's opponents have gained ground with the Iowa Caucuses just five weeks away.

The poll will measure caucusgoers' first and second choice for president among Trump and six competing candidates, including:

  • Texas businessman Ryan Binkley

  • Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie

  • Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis

  • Former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley

  • Former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson

  • Entrepreneur and author Vivek Ramaswamy

When will the new Iowa Poll results be published?

The first results from the new Iowa Poll will be published online at 5 a.m. CST Monday at DesMoinesRegister.com and on NBC News. The results will also be printed in Monday's Des Moines Register.

A Register exclusive since 1943, the Iowa Poll is a closely watched indicator of presidential candidate strength in the first-in-the-nation caucus state. The Iowa Republican caucuses are scheduled for Jan. 15, 2024.

What else was asked in this Iowa Poll?

The poll will also test caucusgoers' level of enthusiasm for their first choice and their feelings toward the Republican presidential candidates. It will also ask if their mind is made up on who they will support.

The poll also will gauge likely Republican caucusgoers' thoughts on whether they believe Trump's legal challenges will hurt his electability.

In future days, the poll also will test whether caucusgoers believe the leading presidential candidates are too conservative, too moderate or about right and whether they believe those candidates can beat President Joe Biden in a general election.

The poll will ask likely caucusgoers whether they are swayed by the powerful endorsements DeSantis and Haley have received in recent weeks, including from Gov. Kim Reynolds, evangelical leader Bob Vander Plaats and the Koch political network's Americans for Prosperity Action.

And it will query caucusgoers on which of the top candidates would be best suited to keep their family safest, be the strongest leader, be most feared by America's enemies, do the best job with the economy and protect America's democracy, among other qualities.

The poll also will quiz likely caucusgoers on whether they are more or less likely to support Trump based on a series of recent statements he has made on the campaign trail, including calling political enemies "vermin," saying he would have "no choice" but to lock up political opponents, claiming he is America's most pro-life president in history and stating that 2020 election "fraud" justifies terminating parts of the U.S. Constitution.
