Iowa State adds junior college quarterback Nate Glantz of Iowa Western Community College

Will Iowa State have a quarterback competition for the first time in a while?

That remains to be seen; however, the Cyclones added a quarterback to the roster Sunday.

Nate Glantz, who completed 159 of 301 passes for 2,147 yards and 18 touchdowns in 10 games last season at Iowa Western Community College of Council Bluffs, tweeted “Always bet on yourself. Committed. #GoCyclones”

The tweet accompanied a picture of Glantz wearing a black No. 18 Cyclones jersey.

Glantz, who attended Omaha’s Bellevue West High School, chose Iowa State over offers from San Jose State, South Alabama and Northern Iowa, among others, according to the 247sports.com web site. Nebraska offered Glantz an opportunity to walk on the team.

The 6-foot-2, 195-pounder completed 290 of 508 passes for 3,958 yards and 41 touchdowns during his 18-game Iowa Western career. He has three seasons of eligibility remaining at Iowa State.

Iowa State is thin on experience at quarterback after Brock Purdy’s record-setting career ended against Clemson in the Cheez-It Bowl. The only other quarterback on campus with game experience is redshirt freshman Hunter Dekkers, who completed 20 of 36 passes for 193 yards and two touchdowns last season.
