Iowa State is one piece closer to filling out its 2022-23 men's basketball roster.

Osun Osunniyi, a transfer from St. Bonaventure, has committed to the Cyclones, he announced Friday.

The 6-foot-10, 220-pounder averaged 11.3 points and 7.5 rebounds per game and was a two-time Atlantic 10 defensive player of the year. He shot 61.3 percent from the field last season.

Osunniyi averaged 2.9 blocks per game and his block percentage of 12.1 was 15th-best nationally.

The senior joins Jaren Holmes (St. Bonaventure), Hason Ward (VCU) and Jeremiah Williams (Temple) as transfers joining the Iowa State program, which went from 2-22 to the Sweet 16 in coach T.J. Otzelberger's first season at the helm. Tre King (Georgetown) transferred into the program during last season and will be eligible this season.

Iowa State, which will welcome freshmen Tamin Lipsey, Eli King and Demarion Watson into the fold this summer, now has one open scholarship remaining for the upcoming season.

The Cyclones will almost surely target a guard given their roster composition and a lack of 3-point shooting. The team was among the country's worst from distance last year.

An obvious target is A.J. Green, the Missouri Valley Conference player of the year from Northern Iowa. Green, the son of Iowa State assistant Kyle Green, is simultaneously going through the NBA pre-draft process while also entering into the transfer portal.

As a high-scoring 6-foot-4 guard who has flirted with 40 percent shooting on a high volume of 3-point shots, the senior would immediately fill a number of needs for the Cyclones. Green, though, is getting considerable NBA interest with multiple workouts with individual franchises as well as an invitation to the G-League combine next week in Chicago.
