Iowa State football coach Matt Campbell tossed out the notion that he might end spring practice with a spring game. Well, the idea has stuck.

The Cyclones will have a spring game of some fashion on Saturday, April 22 at 11 a.m. at Jack Trice Stadium. Fans are welcome to attend, and admission will be free.

The format of the game will be determined later, and will largely be dependent on what players are available.

Iowa State football coach Matt Campbell, seen here with quarterback Hunter Dekkers, said his team will conclude spring practice with a spring game.

The topic came up when Campbell was asked last month if his team would have some spring workouts at local high schools. Last spring, the Cyclones had open workouts at Ames and Gilbert high schools, while Iowa State practice fields were renovated.

“I would like to have a spring game this year,” Campbell said. “So, whether we’re somewhere or back here − I would like to do that. Just because we are so young, I would like to put our team in the position to get out and play, and get our fans to be able to be in that environment. I thought that helped us last year.

“So, whether we travel or have that final opportunity for a spring game − those are things we are kind of debating right now. But, hopefully we get there.”

Iowa State hasn't had a spring game since 2017. Spring practice starts March 23.
