Iowa State football picks up Stanford running back Arlen Harris Jr. in transfer portal

Former four-star running back Arlen Harris Jr. of Stanford announced his commitment to Iowa State football through the transfer portal on Sunday.

Harris recorded just one yard on two attempts for the Cardinal this past season.

The 5-foot-11 running back was rated the No. 8 player in Missouri and No. 30 running back nationwide as a member of the 2023 recruiting class, according to 247Sports Composite. Iowa State was one of the programs that originally offered Harris, showing interest in May 2019.

Harris committed to Stanford over offers from the Cyclones, Iowa, Arkansas, Ball State, Boston College, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kansas State, Kentucky, LSU, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Penn State, Purdue, Vanderbilt and West Virginia.

He announced he was officially in the portal on Nov. 28 but had shared his intentions to transfer in October. According to Harris’ Twitter, he took visits to Iowa State and Iowa before choosing the Cyclones.

Harris’ commitment makes him the first player to transfer into Matt Campbell’s program this off-season.
