Iowa State wide receiver Xavier Hutchinson was rewarded for his record-breaking 2022 season on Monday when he was named a first-team All-American by the Associated Press.

Hutchinson, a senior from Jacksonville, Florida, is Iowa State's first first-team AP All-American since Breece Hall in 2020 and only the second since Troy Davis in 1996. He was also named first-team All-Big 12 last week.

This season, Hutchinson broke his own school record for receptions with 107, which also ranked second in the nation. He was tops in the country in catches per game, averaging 8.9 per contest. He hauled in at least eight passes in 11 of the 12 games he played in this season too. In total, Hutchinson had 1,171 receiving yards and six touchdowns on the year. He'll also forever live in Cyclones' lore for capping the 99-yard touchdown drive in the 2022 Cy-Hawk game with an 8-yard score, ultimately giving ISU the win.

“X is a unique player,” said coach Matt Campbell during the season. “He can do a lot of different things. The best thing is, getting the football in his hands. He is a dynamic playmaker."
