Iowa State men's basketball is going back to the islands for the 2024 Maui Invitational

Iowa State is returning to Hawaii.

The Cyclones men’s basketball team will play in the Nov. 25-27, 2024 Maui Invitational.

Coach T.J. Otzelberger’s team will join Auburn, Colorado, Dayton, Memphis, Michigan State, North Carolina -- and 2023 national champion Connecticut.

Iowa State has played in two previous Maui Invitationals, the most recent in 2018, when the Steve Prohm-coached team lost against Arizona, then beat Illinois and San Diego State.

In 1990, the Cyclones, coached by Johnny Orr, beat tournament hosts, Chaminade, before losing against Syracuse and Santa Clara.

Talon Horton-Tucker's performance in Iowa State's 2018 Maui Invitational, helped propel him to become a second-round NBA pick after just one season as a Cyclone.

Each of the eight teams in the 2024 field has played Maui Invitational, including eight-time participant North Carolina.

“The goal of the Maui Jim Maui Invitational is and always has been to bring together the top programs in college basketball in one of the most stunning places in the country, ” said Tom Valdiserri, executive vice president of KemperLesnik, which operates the Maui Invitational.

“We are confident when we say that the Maui Jim Maui Invitational does not disappoint, and we think fans back home and on-island will be in for an epic few days of college basketball with this stacked field.”
