Iowa State men's basketball picks up former Buffalo guard Curtis Jones in the transfer portal
Former University of Buffalo guard Curtis Jones has committed to Iowa State men's basketball through the transfer portal, he announced on social media Monday.
The 6-foot-5, 180-pound rising junior was Buffalo’s leading scorer last season and entered the portal in late March. He was the fifth player to leave the Bulls after the university fired head coach Jim Whitesell.
Jones visited Iowa State this past weekend, several weeks after entering the portal after two seasons with Buffalo.

He started all 31 games during the 2022-23 season and averaged 15 points and 4.8 rebounds in over 31 minutes of play per game. His performance this past season showed a marked improvement from his first year at Buffalo, in which he recorded an average of 2.5 points and 1.8 rebounds per game.
A native of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Jones appeared in 24 games at Indian Hills Community College during the 2020-21 season. He averaged 12.1 points, six rebounds and 5.5 assists per contest.
Jones graduated high school without any Division I offers. He comes to Iowa State with two remaining years of eligibility and fills the last remaining scholarship spot for the Cyclones.
