Iowa State men's basketball takes tumble in latest polls after back-to-back losses

Iowa State fell in the latest college basketball polls released Monday, but the Cyclones remained in the top 25 — barely.

The Cyclones, who have lost the past two games and four of the last five, slid 10 spots to No. 24 the latest Ferris Mowers Men's Basketball Coaches Poll. In the AP poll released Monday, Iowa State was down eight spots to No. 23. Last week, Iowa State was No. 14 in the coaches poll and No. 15 in the AP poll.

Iowa State (14-5 overall, 2-5 in Big 12) lost to Texas Tech in Lubbock and TCU in Ames last week.

This week, the Cyclones face Oklahoma State on the road on Wednesday before a break in Big 12 play for a matchup against Missouri in Ames in the Big 12/SEC Challenge.

Iowa State started the season with 12 straight non-conference wins and reached No 8 in both polls.

Since Big 12 play began, however, the Cyclones have managed two home wins —against Texas Tech on Jan. 5 and Texas on Jan. 15.

Saturday's loss to TCU in Ames was the second at Hilton Coliseum for Iowa State. The Cyclones opened conference play with a home loss to then-No. 1 Baylor on New Year's Day.

A win against Oklahoma State this week would be the first conference road win this season.

Last week's loss to Texas Tech in Lubbock was the third road defeat for the Cyclones. Iowa State also fell to Oklahoma on Jan. 8 and Kansas on Jan. 11 on the road.
