Iowa State women's basketball star Ashley Joens wins Cheryl Miller Award for third straight season

Former Iowa State women's basketball star Ashley Joens was the best small forward in the country this season.

Again.

Joens, who just wrapped up her final season at Iowa State, was named the Cheryl Miller Award winner for the third straight season Saturday. The award, given to the nation's top small forward since 2018, has been won by Iowa State players four times. Ex-Cyclones star Bridget Carleton won it in 2019.

It's another significant honor for Joens, who was named Big 12 Player of the Year after another monster season leading Iowa State to the NCAA Tournament. The 6-foot-1 Iowa City native led the Big 12 in scoring, averaging 21.6 points per game. Joens scored in double figures in 31 of 32 Iowa State games and tallied at least 20 points in 20 games. She finished with 16 double-doubles.

The Cheryl Miller Award caps off a historic career for Joens. She is Iowa State's career leader in points (3,060), rebounds (1,391), games played and started (158), field goals (988), 3-pointers (344), free throws (740), double-doubles (65) and points per game (19.4).
