Iowa State women's basketball team wins by 40 points at TCU for third straight victory

Wednesday’s matchup in Fort Worth, Texas, pitted the Big 12 Conference preseason favorite against the league’s worst team. It wasn’t expected to be a close one. And it never was.

The No. 15 Iowa State women’s basketball team led from start to finish and thoroughly dominated host Texas Christian during a 75-35 win over the Horned Frogs at Schollmaier Arena.

The Cyclones improved to 14-4 on the season including 6-2 in Big 12 play. Ashley Joens scored a game-high 19 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for the Cyclones, who led 20-10 after the first quarter and took a commanding 33-17 lead into halftime.

Things never got better for TCU, which was outscored 29-5 in the third quarter. TCU (6-13 overall, 0-8 in Big 12) shot just 23% (13-for-56) from the field and 13% (2-of-16) from 3-point range.

Iowa State’s Morgan Kane scored 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field and grabbed five rebounds. Denae Fritz added 13 points and four rebounds for the Cyclones.

The Cyclones have won three straight games heading into Saturday's 3 p.m. showdown against No. 12 Oklahoma at Hilton Coliseum in Ames.
