Will the Iowa Supreme Court reverse itself on abortion?

Good morning, Iowa.

On Wednesday, I sat down for a few hours to start mapping out what the Des Moines Register's coverage of two key abortion cases would look like.

I knew decisions from both the state and federal supreme courts were eminent.

I had no idea how eminent.

Sometime this morning, the state's highest court will issue its opinion in a case anti-abortion advocates hope will clear the way for tighter restrictions on abortion in the state — if not the total elimination of the practice.

Such a decision would be a total reversal from an earlier opinion that declared there was a state constitutional right to an abortion. Republican leaders have been attempting to erase it ever since.

We'll have comprehensive coverage from our judicial reporter William Morris and politics reporter Katie Akin. Other Register reporters, photographers and editors will be helping too.

This is politics editor Nic Garcia. And I'm hoping whatever the court decides, the decision is written in clear, declarative sentences everyone will understand. What do you hope the court decides? Shoot me an email at ngarcia@gannett.com.

P.S. The Des Moines Register staff is off Monday in observance of Juneteenth. We'll be back in your inboxes Tuesday. Check out these events to help celebrate.
