Iowa Western Community College's football team is ending this season in the same place it finished last year — the NJCAA national championship game.

In 2021, the Reivers ended the season as national runners-up, falling to New Mexico Military Institute. This season, they're hoping to claim the top spot when they take on Hutchinson Community College (Kansas) on Wednesday, Dec. 14, at 8 p.m. in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Iowa Western (9-2) has already played Hutchinson once this year. The teams met in Council Bluffs last month for the Reivers' regular-season finale and the Blue Dragons (11-0) came away with a 29-28 win. Having seen Hutchinson recently, Iowa Western coach Scott Strohmeier is feeling confident in his squad heading into the title game.

"It's the national championship game, so everything is up in the air," Strohmeier said. "Our guys will be confident because we felt we should have won (in November). And they won the game, so they should be confident. So really we can't overthink it too much with how many adjustments you're going to make."

Iowa Western is making its fourth appearance in the national title game and is searching for its second national title in 14 years since the program's inception. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU.
