Iowans are split on Joni Ernst

Good morning, and happy Friday!

We've made it through a week of Iowa Poll results.

Today, my story looks at how Iowans feel about U.S. Sen. Joni Ernst's job performance.

And they're split.

44% of Iowans approve of the job Ernst, a Republican, is doing in the Senate, and 44% disapprove.

Ernst's approval number held steady from the last Iowa Poll, in March, while her disapproval number ticked up three points.

The new poll is only the second time since Ernst began serving in the Senate in 2015 that her approval numbers have not been not higher than her disapproval numbers.

The Iowans I talked to seem to either really like Ernst or really dislike her.

“She’s very conservative, and I like that. I’m very conservative,” said Laura Hakes, a Republican from Dallas Center.

“She basically votes in the opposite direction that I believe in almost all the time, it seems like,” said Christine Lehman-Engledow, a Democrat from Swisher.

This is Stephen, ready for a weekend of thinking about something other than poll results. That said, if you have questions you can email me at sgrubermil@registermedia.com.
