The coronavirus has spread to several Iranian cities, a health ministry official said on Friday (February 21).

The majority of cases in Iran have been in Qom, a Shi'ite Muslim holy city 120 km south of the capital.

The widening outbreak came as Iranians were voting in a parliamentary election.

A first case of the virus was also confirmed in Lebanon on Friday after a woman arriving from Iran was found to be positive, according to hospital sources.

The epidemic originated in China and has killed more than 2,100 people there.
