Iran unrest death toll grows as protests intensify

STORY: Iranian authorities said three people including a member of the security forces had been killed on Tuesday during the unrest sweeping the country.

Official sources now say a total of seven people have been killed since protests erupted on Saturday.

Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old from Iran's Kurdistan province, fell into a coma and died following her arrest in Tehran last week over the country's strict new hijab policy, sparking demonstrations in multiple areas, the capital included.

Amini has since become a rallying point for Iranians who oppose what they see as rising state surveillance and the erosion of human rights, with women at the center of the clampdown.
