Iranian boats ‘try to sieze British oil tanker in Strait of Hormuz’, say US officials

Five ships believed to belong to Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have attempted to stop a British oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz, according to US officials.

The vessels approached the ship in the Gulf on Wednesday, asking it to pull over in nearby Iranian waters, but withdrew after a Royal Navy warship warned them over radio, an American defence official said.

The Ministry of Defence had no immediate comment in relation to the incident.
