Iran's Rouhani claims victory over unrest he blames on foreigners

Iran's President is claiming victory over unrest he's blamed on the country's foreign enemies.

Hassan Rouhani was speaking on state TV, and also acknowledged there may have been complaints about the country's management.

Unrest began on Friday (November 15) after gasoline prices were raised at least 50% and rationing imposed.

They quickly turned political.

Thousands of Iranians joined pro-government rallies in several cities on Wednesday (November 20).

It comes after Amnesty International said more than 100 protesters had been killed in days of demonstrations in 21 cities.

Around 1,000 protesters have been arrested

This is Tehran on Saturday (November 16).

Iran has gone on the defensive, restricting access to the internet making it nearly impossible for protesters to post social media videos of demonstrations.

Blaming "thugs" linked to exiles and foreign enemies for the protests like the U.S., Israel, and Saudi Arabia.

And, its mission to the UN called Amnesty's report "baseless allegations and fabricated figures."
