Twitter has suspended the account of a Chinese virologist who claimed that Covid-19 was “man-made” and created in a Wuhan lab. Dr Li-Meng Yan, who claims to be a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Hong Kong School of Public Health, had her Twitter account suspended by the social media site earlier this week. The virologist, who had more than 60,000 followers on Twitter before her account was suspended, made headlines this week when she claimed to have evidence that the Chinese government was involved in creating the virus, which has so far killed more than 936,156 people worldwide.

Democrat Voters Against Joe Biden is a project of an existing nonprofit advocacy group called Americans for Responsible Government, meaning it can engage in limited politicking and is not required to disclose its donors. Curiously, though it is not explicitly political, the group's online donation page includes disclaimer language required only of registered political committees advising donors that they can only donate $2,800 per election. No such donation limits exist for nonprofits.

School Committeeman John Oliveira says he has built an electric fence around his Trump political lawn sign to keep people away after repeated thefts. Oliveira, 54, admits the electrified fence looks terrible and said his neighbors will probably complain, but he did it to protect his property in the city's West End from further thefts. “It hasn't been touched in two weeks since the electric fence went up,” he said.
A Pakistani ruling party parliamentarian has introduced legislation seeking to jail anyone who "ridicules or brings into disrepute or defames" the military, according to records posted on parliament's website on Wednesday. Civil rights groups and opposition parties have long held that the military meddles in politics and had supported crackdowns on critical voices, an allegation the military denies. "The purpose of this amendment is to prevent hatred and disrespectful behaviour against the Armed Forces," says the bill, presented by Amjad Ali Khan, chairman of parliament's standing committee on defence.
Unfortunately, we have not prioritized this in the U.S. A first-ever state-by-state study of Holocaust knowledge among millennials and Gen Z by the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany (Claims Conference) revealed what we have known for some time: that younger generations, removed from the memories of World War II, lack critical knowledge of the Holocaust. The study brings to light some especially shocking revelations: many twentysomethings and thirtysomethings in the U.S. think that the hateful views of neo-Nazism represent just an expression of free speech, and they also erroneously believe that the Jews caused the Holocaust.
Attorney General William Barr told prosecutors to bring aggressive charges against those involved in protests including sedition, according to reports. The charge of sedition is levied for alleged attempts to overthrow the government and has rarely been used, the Wall Street Journal reported. Barr also called for criminal charges against Seattle's mayor over the city's autonomous police-free zone during the protests earlier this summer.

Months after the police killing of Breonna Taylor thrust her name to the forefront of a national reckoning on race, the city of Louisville agreed to pay the Black woman's family $12 million and reform police practices as part of a settlement announced Tuesday. But Taylor's mother and others who have taken up her cause said much more must be done to right the wrongs of racial injustice in America. Please continue to say her name,” Taylor's mother, Tamika Palmer, declared at an emotional news conference, evoking the call that has become a national refrain for those outraged by the shooting and police violence.

Kamala Harris did not step off of her private plane on her way to visiting the scene of a devastating California wildfire so much as she bounced. The vice presidential nominee did so in Timberland boots, drawing a wave of online cheers and boos, in what might be the first true sartorial scandal of the Biden/Harris campaign. “THE TIMBS THO,” Meena Harris, Kamala's niece wrote on Instagram.
The Trump administration insisted on Wednesday that federal officials, including members of the military, will not have a direct role in delivering COVID-19 vaccines or injecting them into Americans when one is approved for distribution. Top officials working on “Operation Warp Speed,” the federal program to speed up the discovery, manufacturing and distribution of a coronavirus vaccine, spoke to reporters on condition of anonymity to clear up what they admitted was confusion regarding the U.S. military's role in securing a vaccine supply and helping get it out to the public. Earlier this summer, President Donald Trump said the military had been “mobilized” to distribute the eventual vaccine in a similar role to their deployment in the spring, when thousands of National Guard and active duty forces fanned out across the United States to establish field hospitals and testing sites.

A memo from the Senate Republican campaign committee suggests the GOP is worried its majority in the chamber could succumb to a blue wave this November as Democrats look to expand their electoral reach into typically red states such as Montana, South Carolina, and Georgia. Less than 50 days before the 3 November elections, the internal GOP memo, obtained and first reported by the Guardian , shows how campaign operatives see the races shaping up in 10 key states that will determine whether Democrats reclaim the Senate majority for the first time in two election cycles. "The next few weeks will define the future of our country for generations to come," the memo from the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) reads.
Indian and Chinese border troops had an exchange of gunfire last week just days before a meeting of their foreign ministers, Indian officials said on Wednesday, in a further breach of a decades-old restraint at the frontier. The two sides have had a long-standing agreement for troops not to use firearms at the poorly defined Line of Actual Control or the informal border and for 45 years no shot has been fired. But since last month, there have been three incidents of warning shots fired in the western Himalayas where troops are locked in a faceoff over competing territorial claims, often in close proximity, officials aware of the situation told Reuters.
