Iron Mountain dentist works from the heart to provide free services this Valentine’s season

IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (WJMN) – The John Fornetti Dental Center is hosting “Dentistry from the Heart” on Saturday, February 10 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m CST.

This is a free day of dental care for those in need. Any community member 18+ can get a free cleaning, filling, or extraction. No appointments are needed, but this is on a first come, first served basis. Proof of need is also not needed. Dr. John Fornetti said to be prepared to wait, but the community really comes together for this event to make the wait a bit more bearable.

“We end up turning our parking lot into a reception area because, obviously, everyone can’t fit in the facility at the same time. So, we will have some warming barrels outside, MBM Construction is providing us with a construction trailer so people can stay warm during the event. Many of the local restaurants are providing chili and soup and things like that so that there’s something to eat while you’re waiting. But, we do ask you to dress appropriately [for the weather],” said Fornetti.

Dr. Fornetti said this is the 18th annual “Dentistry from the Heart” event. He said this event is all about giving back to their community.

“A number of years ago, our team was sitting in a meeting and we were saying, ‘we really want to be able to give back.’ And somebody in the group said, ‘instead of going on a mission trip somewhere, why don’t we give back to our community, right here, the very community that has been so good to us all these years? Why don’t we give back to them?’ And so, that kind of birthed the idea of doing ‘Dentistry from the Heart,’” said Fornetti.

Dr. Fornetti also mentioned that The Drug Store in Iron Mountain is partnering with them that day to fill any dental prescriptions for free as well.
