Irwin's Gig on Main concert to honor veterans, first responders

Sep. 2—A concert and tribute to first responders and veterans is planned for a special event in downtown Irwin from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Sept. 11.

There will be a moment of silence during the Gig on Main in memory of those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, and a presenting of the colors. There also will be a flyover of civilian aircraft, said Caroline Lewis, owner of the Cheesecake Caffe, who organized the event with Kevin McDonald of Main Street Music. Both are Irwin Business & Professional Association members.

"We will be paying tribute to those whose lives were affected by the terrorist attacks on the United States during the event as well. We want to honor those who keep us safe while serving abroad and here at home," Lewis said.

Main Street will be closed from Third Street to Western Alley, Lewis said.

Three bands will be perform during Gig on Main, where a stage will be erected at the intersection of Fifth and Main streets: String Theory, an acoustic band; Jim Donovan and the Sun King Warriors; and The Clarks.

Those attending can sample a variety of food, from barbecue crepes, Mediterranean dishes, pizza, hoagies, pasta, pretzels, grilled cheese, gyros, burgers, hibachi, sushi, hot dogs, fresh-squeezed juices, smoothie bowls, funnel cakes, fried Oreos and chimney cakes.
