Ishpeming Senior Center asks for donations for homebound seniors

ISHPEMING, Mich. (WJMN) – The Ishpeming Senior Center, along with the Greater Ishpeming Commission on Aging is seeking donations for homebound seniors in the west end of Marquette County.

The requested items include unscented soap, laundry and dish detergent, shampoo, paper towels, toilet paper, and coffee and tea. Basically, anything not able to be purchased on a Bridge Card or any other food assistance program.

Executive Director, Ashley Roberts says the goal is to assist seniors in the rural west end of Marquette County, and allow them to remain in their homes.

“This is our second annual Homebound Senior Campaign,” said Roberts. “We ran it last year. We asked for items like blankets, mugs, coffee, hot cocoa, puzzles. This year, our focus for our Homebound Senior Project really targets low to moderate income individuals that are accepting food assistance and have a Bridge Card or EBT card. We’re looking to collect items that they wouldn’t be able to purchase with their food cards things that you need for your day-to-day living. Those are things that can add up quickly on your grocery bill and things that a Bridge Card doesn’t necessarily pay for.”

The Ishpeming Senior Center will be collecting donations until May 1, 2024. If you know of any seniors in need of assistance, Roberts urges you to call the senior center at 906-485-5527.
